Former Olympian and renowned coach Youngsook Park, also known as Sally, has started a one-year position at the World Archery Excellence Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland. She will work with Swiss national archers, visiting elite archers from worldwide and the facility’s members. A world championships silver medalist in 1981, Sally was a member of the Korean team at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games. She has since coached around the world, including famously making Areneo David Malawi’s first Olympic archer in 2016 and helping Karma become the first Bhutanese athlete to win a quota for Tokyo 2020.
Sally is now bringing her talents to the Olympic Capital.
“I will try to motivate archers with fresh coaching techniques and methods,” said Sally. “Coaching is not just about skills but helping them with mental health and daily routines. I’m proud to help them improve.”
She has already begun working with young resident athletes at the Centre, including Swiss squad archers Liliana Licari and Keziah Chabin.
“Sally brings different perspective to our training session and I’m sure I’m learning a lot,” said Liliana.
Keziah added that, “having someone who pushes you helps a lot and it really allows you to be better”.
As well as coaching archery, Sally will be using her time in Lausanne to learn French. It’s a new challenge for the experienced international coach – and she is a huge addition to the team at the World Archery Excellence Centre.
Sally is available for coaching sessions of international elite archers, national team archers and World Archery Excellence Centre members.
